The hurricane had top sustained winds of 75 miles per hour and it was located about 45 miles southwest of Freeport, Texas. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott states the condition has placed save teams and sources within the Houston area and across the Texas Gulf Coast.
Many schools within the Houston and Galveston areas are closed Monday due to the storm. Seaside areas in Mexico and storm-battered Louisiana are also likely to see heavy rain and flooding from Nicholas. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a condition of emergency.
